Timber frame house in Haines, Alaska

Submitted by Martha Robichaud

Hand built by my sister and her husband in the 1980s with fitted wood pieces and joints, rather than with nails and screws. The walkway up to the house is necessary because there is a small river flowing across the land. But this makes the soil rich and fertile — they live almost entirely off produce grown on their own land. The glass in front is a little greenhouse.
