Caruso St John to design Brexit-themed British Pavilion at 2018 Venice Biennale


Plans for the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale are well under way, with curators for the U.S., Australian, and German Pavilions already announced. This morning, the winning team for the British Pavilion was revealed to be the Adam Caruso, Peter St. John—the founding partners of the acclaimed practice Caruso St. John—and artist Marcus Taylor. Responding to the theme of Freespace set by curators Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects, the British team has settled on the concept Island and have promised the proposal will engage with current political themes.

Peter St. John spoke of the news remarking that "it is an honor for us to have been selected to curate the British Pavilion. In the year before Brexit, we plan to transform the building into a generous public space that can be a popular meeting point within the gardens of the Biennale."

Sarah Mann, Director of Architecture, Design, and Fashion at the British Council responsible for the Pavilion spoke of the news...
