“A Walk in the Countryside”: Camarim Forms a Winding Country Home to Merge With the Hillside
The Lisbon-based design duo behind Camarim has conceived of a country home in Penela, Portugal, as “a walk in the countryside.” Negotiating the hilly topography of the site, the studio has designed a country home for a British couple that winds across the hillside, clinging to its natural slope. The concrete home is configured in a ramp-like formation, allowing each floor to have access to the outdoors. Expansive windows and doors create a permeable connection with the landscape, while the slate color of the façade pays homage to the vernacular palate of the historic region.
