Get Lectured: University of Virginia, Fall '20


For their virtual lecture series, the University of Virginia School of Architecture has focused the Fall semester lectures on "a range of contemporary voices and perspectives on the relationships between race and the built environment, social equity and activism, environmental justice and inclusive practices."

For September, UVA welcomed lectures from Katherine McKittrick, Alissa Ujie Diamond, and Chelina Odbert. In addition to these presentations on urban planning, equity, race, and architectural history, the school also held its Women of Impact Q+A event with Marian Weiss and Nancy Howell Agee. Following that event, the "Justice is Beauty: An Evening with MASS" welcomed a virtual discussion with UVA alums Katie Swen...

Going beyond borders, oceans, and thinking of the continents as a continuous entity comes from this vision. Fifty years later, we face the existential threat of ecological disaster, and maybe revisiting the whole earth project seems like a way of recapturing that drive. This proposal looks at a network of towers that span across the oceans connecting the planet in a matrix that provides energy cleans the oceans and gives new chances for life to thrive. Fusion, Solar, and Hydro-power are used in this matrix with all of these being in high abundance in the ocean.
