Best of Coverings 2016: Ceramics of Italy Edition


The humble yet versatile ceramic tile truly gets around, from cladding walls and floors to furniture and even building exteriors. In fact, it’s such a go-to product type in both residential and commercial projects that ceramic tile consumption in the US alone reached 2.74 billion square feet last year — a 9.9-percent increase from 2014. Widely considered a leader in ceramic as well as natural stone tile and glass mosaics, Italy of course was one of the largest exporters of such product to the US. And it’s easy to see why, looking at some of the country’s stunning, innovative and original designs on display at American tile and stone expo Coverings last week. Here are some of the standouts of the Italian portion of Coverings 2016, which took place at Chicago’s McCormick Place. 41zero42 41zero42 When last we saw this young company, it had unveiled its single-color imprinted-pattern ceramic series Signs for the crowd at Cersaie (Italy’s biggest tile show).
