The bottom station of the cable car to Velika Planina, a small village close to Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, and only few kilometres from the town Kamnik, gives you a chance to admire the green pastures of the mountain plateau in the heart of the Kamnik Alps. The herdsmen’s settlement on the pasture includes approximately 140 huts.

With its characteristic architecture, these are Velika Planina’s most important landmark. The huts are covered with roofs made of traditional spruce shingles. Some of them are open to visitors, so there’s no reason why you couldn’t spend a night or two like a true Slovenian shepard.
