54 projects win in 2019 RIBA National Awards


RIBA revealed a competitive roster of winners for their National Awards. As part of their yearly awards cycle since 1966, the National Awards distinguish the UK’s best new construction projects as well as provide insight into the UK's design and economic trends.

Volume housing, revamped historic buildings, and high-quality cultural destinations were key trends in this year's National Award winners. The 54 winning projects will now be considered for the Stirling Prize shortlist, which will be announced on July 18. The Stirling Prize winner will be announced October 8 in London.

“Despite the political and economic challenges of recent years, our 2019 RIBA National Award winners show that UK architecture is highly adaptable, immensely talented and as community-focused as ever,” said RIBA President Ben Derbyshire in a statement. “I am particularly heartened that more than one-third (20 of 54) of our winners have creatively adapted existing buildings.
