A Park Avenue loft

Resim
I am a big fan of New York City-based interior design firm The New Design Project and was stoked to hear from them about this new project. This absolutely stunning loft is a dream and furnished impeccably, including a collection of lighting that is to die for. Fresh and serene, this is a Park Avenue loft with a decidedly downtown feel. The space is refined and elegant but modern and relaxed. Sculptural lighting, such as the Lariat 3 by Apparatus Studio and String Light by Michael Anastassiades, adds drama and emphasizes the high ceilings, whilst oversized artwork and bold textiles, such as the Diego rug by Eskayel, add color and depth.  Iconic mid-century pieces inspired by the designs of Hans Wegner, Poul Kjaerholm and Eero Saarinen, are paired with more contemporary custom millwork, such as the black and brass floating wall shelves, floating upholstered bench, and marble and black oak nightstands.  A curated collection of accessories in a mix of sizes, shapes and materia...

These 10 Truss Houses Blend Beautiful Architecture With Elegant Engineering

Resim
Few structural systems are as iconic as the truss. Forming historic bridge designs, trusses within architecture have usually been reserved for roof forms. From the rectilinear Vierendeel to Bowstring, Warren and Pratt configurations, different trusses take on a variety of shapes and sizes. Combining multiple members that behave as a single object, these systems are usually made with multiple units and nodes. The two basic truss types, pitched and parallel, are normally designed by understanding both tensile and compressive forces. Fundamentally, joints or panel points are linked to straight members that become triangular, planar or space frame systems. Moving beyond the application of trusses as roof forms, the following residential projects explore trusses as building envelopes, façades and organizing devices. Specifically, these designs explore how structural systems can frame spatial experiences and the surrounding context. Designed to embrace diverse landscapes, from rugged mount...

The OMA-designed Lusanga International Research Centre on Art and Economic Inequality aims to expose and redress economic inequalities

Located on the former site of a Unilever palm oil plantation in the Congolese forest, the Lusanga International Research Centre on Art and Economic Inequality, or LIRCAEI, is a new white cube museum space dedicated to “the transformation of former plantation spaces into areas for artistic critique, beauty, and ecological diversity, through funneling art world capital back to the plantations it was originally extracted from—to create, in other words, a post-plantation.” Designed by OMA, the Centre seeks to retain profits from the community, which produces sculptures made from cacao among other works, and then buy back land to finance further development. OMA has developed a master plan in collaboration with the local community, “with the goal of establishing the center as a legitimization machine, investigating and relaying the artistic visions and works of plantation workers in the Congo and throughout the global south on the site of their former exploitation.” “Plugged into inter...
