Carefully nested on the edge of the surrounding woodland, this Dark Room was developed by students of the Architectural Association’s Design + Make ( @aadesignandmake ) masters programme in Hooke Park, Dorset, southwest England.

The small building is a meditation on the act of image making — housing a wondrous alchemy of mechanical and chemical processes in its dark belly. Alongside the processing of analog photography, through the structure’s resemblance to a large format camera, students have employed the building itself as a camera — using pinhole techniques to produce images of the surrounding woodland.

Students: Francisco Adriasola, Tom Dawson, Jack Fogel, Unha Park, Florencia Rodriguez, Lucas Wilson

Tutors: Martin Self, Emmanuel Vercruysse, Zachary Mollica, Jack Draper
