J. Meejin Yoon named Cornell's next AAP Dean


J. Meejin Yoon (B.Arch. '95) will return to Cornell as the next dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP), Provost Michael Kotlikoff announced July 23. Yoon is the first woman named to the position since the college was formed in 1896. Yoon is currently the head of the architecture department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's School of Architecture and Planning.



American architect J. Meejin Yoon, cofounder of the Boston-based firm Höweler + Yoon (with partner Eric Höweler) and currently head of the architecture department at MIT's School of Architecture and Planning, has been named the next architecture dean at Cornell University. Yoon, herself an AAP alumna, will commence her five-year term as the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean on January 1, 2019, succeeding Kent Kleinman and the current interim dean, Kieran Donaghy.

In an email to Archinect, J. Meejin Yoon revealed: 

As you may know, I have been at MIT for 17 years and been serving as the Department Head for the past four. MIT is an incredible place and has supported and influenced me in so many ways. It is hard to imagine life after MIT.

Starting January 2019, I will be starting as Dean of AAP at Cornell, which is where I studied as an undergrad, where I first encountered architecture, and where Eric and I met. We still have fond memories of Cornell, and we believe in the program, the college,...
