Mayor Garcetti nominates LA urbanist and landscape architect Mia Lehrer to LADWP Board of Commissioners


Mia Lehrer has been nominated as the L.A. Department of Water and Power Commissioner by Mayor Eric Garcetti. Her extensive expertise, spanning nearly 4-decades, will help the city in its plans towards sustainability, planning, and resiliency efforts.

The Mayor shared in a press statement, "When Mia takes her seat on the Board, we will make history for our city and mark a critical moment of progress on the road to true equity — all while deepening the department's commitment to safeguarding our environment, combating climate change, and creating good-paying jobs."

Going beyond borders, oceans, and thinking of the continents as a continuous entity comes from this vision. Fifty years later, we face the existential threat of ecological disaster, and maybe revisiting the whole earth project seems like a way of recapturing that drive. This proposal looks at a network of towers that span across the oceans connecting the planet in a matrix that provides energy cleans the oceans and gives new chances for life to thrive.
