The Houseboat by Mole Architects + Rebecca Granger Architects wins 2017 RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize; Bedales School named 2017 Client of the Year


Along with the 2017 Stirling Prize winning announcement, RIBA also revealed the Houseboat by Mole Architects and Rebecca Granger Architects as the 2017 Stephen Lawrence Prize winner, and the Bedales School as Client of the Year. 

Established by the Marco Goldschmied Foundation in 1998 in memory of aspiring young architect Stephen Lawrence, the prize recognizes the best UK-based projects designed by emerging talent and were built with a construction budget of less than £1 million. 

The Client of the Year Award honors notable clients and their role in the creation of fine architecture and the positive impact that they can help create for their local communities.

Editors’ Choice 2020 Skyscraper Competition Ruwan Fernando Australia Ever since the Apollo mission showed us the first images of our ‘pale blue dot’ from space, the idea of the world as a ‘whole’ has captured the people’s imagination. Going beyond borders, oceans, and thinking of the continents as a continuous entity comes from this vision. Fifty years later, we face the existential threat of ecological disaster, and maybe revisiting the whole earth project seems like a way of recapturing that drive. This proposal looks at a network of towers that span across the oceans connecting the planet in a matrix that provides energy cleans the oceans and gives new chances for life to thrive. Fusion, Solar, and Hydro-power are used in this matrix with all of these being in high abundance in the ocean.
