Exhibit Columbus awards six University Design Research Fellowships for 2018-19


Following a successful launch in 2016-17, Exhibit Columbus recently announced the recipients of the 2018-19 Exhibit Columbus University Design Research Fellowship, which showcases current research by leading architecture and design professors teaching at public institutions located in America's Heartland. Universities in the region were invited to submit proposals demonstrating innovative research that explores how architecture and design can improve people's live and strengthen cities.

“Columbus has a long history of using architecture, art, and design to make transformative investments in education,” said Anne Surak, Exhibit Columbus Director of Exhibitions, in a statement. “We believe it is important to further this effort by inviting public universities in our region to engage with the design legacy of Columbus through their participation in the 2018 National Symposium and the 2019 exhibition.”

Going beyond borders, oceans, and thinking of the continents as a continuous entity comes from this vision. Fifty years later, we face the existential threat of ecological disaster, and maybe revisiting the whole earth project seems like a way of recapturing that drive. This proposal looks at a network of towers that span across the oceans connecting the planet in a matrix that provides energy cleans the oceans and gives new chances for life to thrive.
