$139 million placemaking plan for NY's Far Rockaway breaks ground in

After a lack of major infrastructure improvements in decades, Downtown Far Rockaway in New York City has broken ground on a promising new project that is due to revitalize a 25-block area of the neigborhood, reports QNS

According to QNS, councilman Donovan Richards said, "This long overdue investment will bring new streetscapes, plaza space, green infrastructure and improved stormwater drainage that will ensure a more pedestrian friendly Far Rockaway that can better manage future storms while also beautifying the commercial corridors and the transportation hub of the peninsula."

As part of the work, streets will be rebuilt and more landscape introduced. The Department of Design and Construction will be managing the project which is due to be complete within the next three years, reports QNS.
