Fire engulfs Foster + Partners-designed High-Speed Rail station in Saudi Arabia

A fire broke out in Jeddah’s Suleimaniyah rail station on Sunday leaving five injured, according to the Jeddah governorate. [...] Dramatic videos on social media showed teams using helicopters in an attempt to put out the fire, which sent huge palls of smoke into the sky of the coastal city.

Saudi Arabia’s Haramain High-Speed Railway opened in 2018 and  ferried Hajj pilgrims throughout the country for the first time earlier this year. The line’s five stations, including the one at Jeddah that caught fire, are designed by Foster + Partners and Buro Happold. According to various social media posts, the fire burned out of control into Monday morning.
